News Flash: This is Art!

Okay, so I’m working on a presentation about “What is Art?” I opened up this article to find this scary, little critter! …If anyone has anything to contribute to the discussion of what the heck ART is, please feel free to enlighten me! If this ugly thing is art, then it would seem that the options are limitless…there don’t seem to be any guidelines! I suppose this is the point when it comes to creative expressions – no rules.

In the movie "The Break Up" Jenifer Aniston says what she thinks Art is; Its something you can walk by again again and always enjoy looking at. I think I agree with that. If it's a funny picture and you like looking at it all the time and laughing, then I would consider it Art. I guess Art is something that evokes an intense emotion.

Yuck. If art is something that evokes an intense emotion, that ugly thing would be considered art... evoking an intense unwelcome and cringing emotion. Although, I suppose others would laugh at the same thing. However, sometimes uncautious drivers also illicit an intense emotion in me... an emotion like wide-eyed sympathetic system over load survival... does that make it art? Never mind... that analogy is going way off base. If art is something you can walk by again and again and enjoy looking at it, then this creepy critter is NOT art... definitely not something I would put on my mantle at home. Maybe in someone's spaghetti sauce to play a joke on them, but definitely not on my mantle.

Is your class about art, or about the construction of ideas such as art? If you're considering different mediums of art, take a look at Ryan's music video. I find that to be pleasant, curious, and very abstract art.
