Bring It On!

I’m getting married in four days. I think a person can reach a point where the excitement is so strong that it just morphs into exhaustion. I am impatient – four days has never seemed like an eternity until today.

Also, planning a wedding is a crap load of work! It’s fun to create this huge party, but good heavens…there is no break in stuff to do! My mother is an amazing woman, and there would be no party if not for her amazing gift in the area of organization. She has worked full time on this wedding all summer long. Note to all of you who have yet to tie the knot: A three month engagement has many benefits, but be prepared to hit the very brink of insanity.

May I also mention that my soon-to-be husband is amazing. I fall more in love with him every day. He has had an incredibly jam packed summer – writing a masters thesis, buying a house, finding a job, and helping with wedding details...he works very hard.

Today I put together our wedding program. I thought I would include the biographies of the bridal party for all of you to check out. We have amazing friends. I’m so thankful that we can share our wedding day with all of you (and we’re sad that some of you are unable to come).

Bridesmaids:

Rachel Brown – Rachel is my sister, and my very good friend. She is responsible for many long-distance telephone charges that show up on the monthly bill. Rachel is calm, cool, and collected. If our mother were to fall into the Kananaskis River, Rachel would mend her wounds without a flinch. Ray is generous and thoughtful. You would be lucky to spend a weekend with Rachel and her wee family; she will make you feel at home and at rest.

Angela Falk – Ange is my funky, spunky sister. She is beyond creative in the realm of wardrobe design, and often comes home with a new and colourful outfit. Angela writes beautiful poetry; she does so with her very personalized style of handwriting. She also loves a good cup o’ joe, which never runs dry in her kitchen. I love her unique style and desire to be out of the ordinary.

Heidi Walker – Heidi is very quiet and gentle…until you move in with her! A wild and hilarious woman emerges from this petite frame! Heidi and I love to procrastinate together; this might include roasting marshmallows in our kitchen over the pillar candles, and turning our living room into a giant tent. Heidi will teach you all about the value of recycling and conservation; she will turn you into a full-blown tree hugger! Heidi is willing to try anything and will make every experience enjoyable and memorable.

Anna Glover – Anna is a wonderful woman who loves to talk with her hands. She makes lists of strange things she’d like to do; this list is taped to her fridge right now:
-Throw a tomato into a fan and watch it splatter
-Drive with no direction until the tank is empty and see where I land up
-Make tea with my lemon verbena plant
There is never a dull moment when Anna is around; she loves to play games, take photos and have people into her home. She’s a marvelous hostess.

Candice Thomson – Candice and I have been friends since we were two years old, when she lived right next door. We spent many days making crafts together, playing outside, and creating mischief. Candice and I attended Capernwray on Thetis Island after we graduated from high school, and last year we lived together at “The Spanish Lantern” in Edmonton. We’re just inseparable! Candice genuinely cares for people; she’ll drop everything if she sees that you’re in need of a hug or a bit of encouragement.

Groomsmen:

Liam Stone - Liam is my longest serving friend, from whom I learned how to deal with the disappointment of second–best test scores. I am pleased at the deserved success you have had in your career, but I am much more proud that your first commitment is to your family. You've always set a high standard for me. Thank you.

Andrew Graham - No party would be complete without Andrew Graham, and certainly not a bridal party. It is a worthy cliché to say that Andrew is more than just my brother, but it is also true to say that he is more than just a friend, because he's my brother. You've been
good to me even when I didn't deserve it, and it means a lot to have the person who has seen me at my worst to stand here with me today.

Kevin Legg - Kevin and I have both come a long way since we met as Intermediate campers, and at long last, our defining saga is drawing to a close. Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. I am confident that this is not the last success that we will celebrate together.

Josh Wilson - In a world with far too few genuinely good guys, Josh Wilson is a genuinely good guy. Josh, it mattered that you were praying for me. It mattered that you laughed at my jokes, and cared about my disappointments. God has blessed me through you.

Steve Wilson - Steve Wilson is one of my best friends because he always makes me feel comfortable and welcome, and happy. I know you are embarrassed by over-rich praise, Steve, but you will have to trust me: you deserve it. Your gentleness and kindness are rare and wonderful qualities. Thank you for sharing them with me.

See y’all soon.

Love,
Kathryn
