If I ever wanted to have a bonfire...I would have some kindling

I received a free fashion magazine this week. I can’t ever recall purchasing one…likely because they are the sickest things ever to be published. I don’t have a clue who reads these!
A) The models look like they’re about to keel over and die. They are not nice looking; they look terrible. They’re sick…most of them probably have some kind of eating disorder and smoke to ease their hunger pangs. They never smile or look happy, likely because they are the most miserable creatures ever to walk the earth.
B) They wear the nastiest clothing (can you even call it that?) that would guarantee enormous amounts of laughter if it were to be worn anywhere other than the runway.
C) The clothing costs more than a new car. You could almost feed an entire starving African nation with the money used to buy one pair of Dolce and Gabbana shoes. And it’s not like the people wearing them don’t know what it feels like to not eat for four weeks.
I hate it. Women, especially, need to steer clear of these traps and look to strong, bright, healthy, persevering women of character to model their lives after. It’s so easy, in our culture, to focus and even obsess on our physical selves. I hope for the disappearance of these shameful magazines. I will never have another one in my hands.

Wow, those are some very intense thoughts!
Well, it is like these people are promoting an illness.
You should go to YouTube, and type in Dove Evolution. It makes an interesting point to add to what you say. I wonder how many girls out there and really trying super hard to fit the image they see in magazines?
check. I'm with you Kathryn
Kathryn, Don't get me wrong, the magazines at times do advertise and promote models that are too skinny and way over priced clothes. But some people do have a passion for design, clothing, and make-up and are really good at it. What I am trying to say in the nicest words is, don't be to quick to slam things before looking at the other side.
Yes, there are people who love fashion, clothing, design, make-up...none of those are inherently bad things I don't think. But how they're portrayed in quite a few magazines isn't exactly inspiring girls or women to have godly characters or be okay with who they are physically. And even though it's so ingrained in our society, there is alot of money spent on highly useless endeavors in this area.
How the deuce do you know what Dolche-whatever and Gabbanna shoes even are??? Who are those people? Are they two companies or is it like "Johnson & Johnson" companies? I guess you could be making it up too... I mean, just slap some letters together and as long as you say it with an Italian accent, then it's fashion. Like... Candicio Bella Volce or something. There... now take a jiffy marker, write that on the tongue of your tennis shoes and go sell them for this semester's tuition. If that's all the fashion industry is, then more power to the people bold enough to exploit the stupidity of the common man.
Or perhaps, stupidity being a bit too strong, the gullibility of the common man. There is simply no reason to take that stuff seriously.
So yes, burn that piece of junk mail, same as any other piece of junk advertising that tells us we ought to buy or be something we really don't need and don't care to be. It's all silliness.
Dearest Wallace;
I think that we should be quick to slam some things; the fashion industry cannot be justified by “the other side of the story.” Yes, some people do have a passion for design but that does not make it okay to exploit these sick women. The whole industry is a mess. Young girls look to these women and want to be like that, which is really quite disturbing. We need to provide better role models for young people. I think fashion is fun, and it’s a good way for people to express themselves and be creative, but the fashion industry has taken that and turned it into a monster that gives nothing positive to society…nothing.
Kathryn,
This would seem like an enjoyable topic to discuss with you over coffee were we could more comfortably duke out our opinions instead of waiting days between each of our comments.
Hee hee....yeah, good idea!
You certainly would....
Hope you and David are doing well.
